Pharmacy - Adco Dol

Expert: Dr. Ravindra Bhaskar Ghooi - 12/7/2008

Question
I found that Adco Dol helps me sleep at night and had been
taking 2-3 tablets every night for the last 2 years.

Can this dose harm my liver?

Thanks

Answer
Hi Anne,
Adco dol contains the following ingredients:
Paracetamol               450 mg
Codeine Phosphate         10 mg
Caffeine                  45 mg
Doxylamine Succinate      5 mg

The doxylamine in this combination produces sleep other ingredients ar not helping you but can cause toxicity on long term use. Why not use plain doxylamine? It is a short acting antihistamine that causes sedtion. Doxylamine succinate is used in general over-the-counter sleep-aids branded as Somnil, Dozile, Donormyl, Restavit and Unisom-2, in the US, so you can buy it without a prescription.
