Question I have recently been diagnosed with Bacterial Vaginosis. My gyno suggested I try Femdophilus (lactobacillus rhamnosus & lactobacillus reuteri). I am already using a daily dose (or 2) or acidophilus. Is it ok to take these 2 medications together or should I stick to one medication to help promote the growth of the 'good' vaginal bacteria? Is there any research that using antidepressants has an affect on vaginal bacteria as well?
Answer There is no problem taking lactobacillus along with acidophilus at the same time. If the problems does not resolve itself within about 7 to 10 days of this therapy I would be in contact with your doctor to let him/her know that you are still having symptoms of the infection. There has been no research to suggest that antidepressants have any effect on vaginal bacteria that I am aware of.
