Pharmacy/Use of antabuse by teen

Question
Hi:  My daughter's psychiatrist has suggested her using antabuse for her alcoholism.  She is 17 years old.  Do you have any experience in teen use of this drug?  Thanks

Answer
Hi Stephani,
I have limited experience with Antabuse. Last time I dispensed it was over 20 years ago. The drug works as a detrrant by making the person ill if they drink alcohol when the drug is in their system. It is very effective in that way. But of course you need to want to quit and have taken the drug.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
