Question
hi..i have a prescription taken to the pharmacy today, but i did not get it. for 30 days, they want over 170 dollars, plus tax, and i dont have that kind of money every month. its for ultram-er 200 mg. once daily. i was wondering if there is something else that can be prescribed at a lot less cost that will do the same basic thing ultram will do. thanks!!

Answer
Yes, there is if your doctor will OK the change in prescription.  Ultram ER does not have a generic available which is why it is so expensive.  The immediate release form of Ultram is available in generic at a much lower cost.  This would mean the doctor would have to change the prescription so it would be up to his/her judgement whether this is appropriate for you knowing your complete medical history.  All you can do is explain the situation to the doctor about the cost of the medication and ask for either the immediate release Ultram in generic or some other alternative as the doctor feels comfortable prescribing for you.

Thanks
