Answer A typical day at our pharmacy is a 13 hour work day in a retail grocery chain. We fill 100 to 140 prescriptions each day with 1 to 2 technicians assisting us. In the process of filling prescriptions we also call doctors for refills, new prescriptions, and clarifications of prescriptions. We counsel patients on the proper use of prescription and over the counter medications. We intervene with insurance companies to try to obtain prior authorizations for non-covered drugs and emergency supplies such as vacation supplies or lost medication. In the fall we administer influenza vaccine to adults. The company I work for requests that we hold one Health Fair per year as a community event which takes several weeks of organization. We do try to spend the majority of our time on direct patient care and with our patients. I am lucky enough to have an employer that wants us to do this as well and give us enought support staff to be able to do so.
