Subject: Effexor

Question
I was taking the antidepressant effexor for a bit less than a year and have gradually stopped taking the medication until i completely stopped 2 and a half weeks ago. I am feeling generally good, and haven't had any withdrawal symptoms since I stopped. I have a medical exam coming up for a new job and it will also include a drug test. I have never taken any drugs, but am a bit worried that the antidepressants are still in my system and will show on the test, as this for me is a very private matter. I have also read that effexor can be mistaken for other drugs in a test. How long does it take for the body to get effexor out of it's system?

Answer
Hi Frida,
They do not look for antidepressants in drug screens for employment. They look for banned substancs, opioids and benzodiazepines. Effexor should not show up in your system if you ave been off of it for 2 weeks. It should be gone after 1 week of stopping the medication.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.Sc. Pharm
