Question Daughter was given prednisone, percocet and benadryl while in ER and told to continue those for a week. She also had taken Vick's cough syrup ( an over the oounter med.) She had to go for a UA test and it came back positive for Meth. My question is could any of those meds give a false positive spacifically for meth? I know there are different ways to have UA's done , some cheaper some expensive--what is the best most reliable accurate test?
Answer Dear Dana
I presume you mean methamphetamine (I am not completely familiar with all street names). None of these drugs should show a positive for methamphetamine but check whether the Benadryl or Vicks' contains pseudoephedrine as this has a remote possibility of giving a positive. There are so many different preparations of Benadryl!
I am sorry I cannot answer the last part of the question - you need to find an expert with toxicological (ie a toxicologist or analytical chemist)experience for this.
