Expert: Eric Brandt Date: 2/25/2008 Subject: Yaz versus Yasmin
Question I was on Yaz for several years and it worked well up to about 5 months ago. I started to have breakthrough bleeding on a consistent basis and having to wear panty liners about 20 days of the month. I discussed it with my OB/GYN and she switched me to Yasmin for the extra estrogin. I have now been taking Yasmin for a little over a mouth and noticed that I have constant bad breath, when my period hit I had horrible headaches, and my blood pressure has gone up. Since I am only 5 weeks into the new pill should I be concerned and talk with my doctor or wait to see if it continues after another month or two? Does extra estrogen give these types of side affects?
Thanks for any information you can give.
Answer Hi Sandy,
I have not heard of oral contraceptives causing bad breath. However I would be concerned about the increase in blood pressure and headaches. Report these to your OB/Gyn immediately. These can affect circulation and the symptoms you are experiencing may be warning signs.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.sc. Pharm
