Subject: What are these medicines for?
Question Hi,
I am 29 and experience frequent menstrual pain during period. I have doctor prescribed following as pain killer.
1- Napan mefenamic acid 250mg - 2 capsules each taking.
2- Apo-piroxicam 20mg -1 capsule each taking.
3- Buscopan - 2 capsules each taking.
I just want to understand better of the medicine i took every month. Is it fine to take on 5 capsules each taking on a monthly basis on the above prescribed? I feel very sleepy after consumption of these medicine. So far the medicine works to reduce my pain every time, I am glad to have them. Any side effect?
Answer Hi Karsin,
Mefenamic acid is used as a pain kller for menstrual pain. It also has anti-inflammatory properties.
Piroxicam is an analgesic anti-inflammatory as well.
Buscopan is used to treat muscle cramps. It is an antispasmotic.
It ia unusual to see these taken simultaneously. But maybe that is what it takes in your case. Have you tried to use just one of them at a time and add the others as needed?
No drug is free of side effects. The anti-inflammatories can cause stomach bleeds.
Buscopan can cause constipation and dry eyes and aggrevate glaucoma.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.Sc. Pharm
