About Nigel Simmons
Expertise I am happy to answer general questions on medicines and hospital care. If possible, please use approved / chemical names rather than brands which are not internationally recognised.
Like all health professionals I am bound by a duty of care which prevents me giving detailed information about medication or treatment of people other than the questioner.
I will endeavour to help wherever possible or point towards more appropriate advice. If however your question crosses too far into patient confidentiality, I hope you will understand why I cannot answer your question.
Consider.. would you want me to discuss your care with a friend or relative without your knowledge?
Experience Registered as a UK pharmacist in 1982 and have worked in a number of hospital and health management posts around the UK. Formerly Chief Pharmacist for a 440 bed general hospital in Cambridgeshire.
Past/Present clients Previously Sysop on CompuServe UK Professionals forum.

Subject: psy medicine which do not affect weight gain and diabetes
Question SIR AGE 48 MALE WEIGHT 100 KG HEIGHT 5.7 DIABETIC TAKING METFORMIN 500 MG 3 TIMES AND LISINOPRIL 2.5 ONCE.
SIR i NEED PSY.MEDICINE TREATMENT FOR UNWANTED THAUGHTS FLOW PERTAINING TO OPRESSIVE ATTITUDE KEPT WITH ME .under such cont.stressful thought flow my health become disturbed.
more problem is that most of psy. medicines have either side effect of weight gain or diabetes..so such medicines are harmful to me But medicines are necessary..so kindly suggest me any relavant medicines which do not increase my sugar and weight gain...(Flupentixol dihydrochloride./?--earlier prescribed)what is best medicine for me?--your suggestion will be confirmed with my doctor and i can start if docter prescribe the same...
Answer I'm afraid I am not a mental health specialist and therefore unqualified to make prescribing recommendations, but I would say that many drugs affecting mood are likely to affect weight, as this itself can be a symptom of the condition being treated.
My recommendation is to discuss your problems with a specialist psychiatrist (rather than a general physician or a diabetologist). This would allow the primary problem to be addressed and the most appropriate treatnent chosen. If necessary the need for metformin can be reviewed and either an alternative treatment considered or the dose and effects kept under close supervision while the major problem is brought under control.
I hope this helps.
