Subject: Diovan hct 160mg/12.5mg tablets

Question
I'm concerned because I also take Dilantin. Would Diovan increase or decrease my chances of seizures?

Answer
 Hi,Marie!
Although Dilantin (phenytoin) interacts with a multitude of other meds, Diovan HCT is not one of them.
There is new research now that shows that patients who were on phenytoin and switched to another anti-seizure med,( Keppra or Lamictal), reduced their risk of cardiovascular disease.  The study showed a striking decrease in cholesterol and CRP( C-reactive protein) levels. That might be something you could discuss with your doctor.  The 2 drugs also do not interact with as many drugs as phenytoin, or have as many side-effects. Hope this helps, Mary
