Subject: Paxil and mirapex

Question
I have been on Paxil 20 mg for 15yrs. I have several of the
side effects of paxil (restless legs, insomnia, decreased
sex drive). I am now taking mirapex to offset the problems of sleeplessness and leg discomfort. Is there a problem mixing these two drugs? Also, I am not overjoyed to be taking a second drug to offset side effects of the first drug.

Answer
Hi Gloria,
There is no interaction between Mirapex and Paxil. If you are certain that Paxil is causing the adverse effects then changing antidepressant is an option. Have you discussed this with your doctor? You would need one with a different mechanism of action than Paxil. I am thinking of Mirtazapine (Remeron) or Bupropion (Wellbutrin).
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.Sc. Pharm
