Subject: combining effexor and adderall

Question
Hi Dr. Ghooi, I was wondering if you could tell me if there are any negative side effects to this combination: effexor and   adderall. I take about 100mg of generic effexor daily. I'd like to take adderall every now and then, but not daily, and a very small dosage. Is this combination dangerous? I would take adderall because it helps me with stress and gives me an energy boost. Thanks for reading my question.

Answer
Hi Connie,
I would not advice you to mix these drugs. The simple rason is that one is a depressant and one a stimulant. The interaction between these agents is not predictable. The literature has not given any specific information on this interaction but I base my opinion on the pharmacology of the ndividual agents.
