Subject: diclofenac sodium safety

Question
I have had moderate to severe neck and shoulder pain for a year and was just diagnosed with a cervical spine problem for which I was prescribed diclofenac sodium and neurotonin (sp?).  I took one of the diclofenac sodium and within an hour could not believe how much better I felt. I decided to look it up on the internet because I was concerned it was some kind of narcotic and I am breastfeeding. I discovered it was a drug similar to ibuprofen. I looked through the warnings and contraindications for lactation information and could not believe all the potential problems from taking this drug! I can't believe my dr. didn't tell me.

My question-how soon would an adverse reaction start and how soon will it be out of my body? I was especially frightened by the skin reactions.  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Cathy,
Pacakage inserts and adverse reaction data pblished in western countries is so extensive that they try to capture the most remote side effects ever noted. Frankly most of these reactions have very rarely been seen. But by law the manufacturer is supposed to mention every little side effect noted. I would not bother much about this. If you have had no side effects on the first few doses you are not likely to get an. The drug is a very good and safe one, and you may use it without fear.
