I have a homocystein 30 and B12 deficiency In India a combination of B-12 1500 mcg Folic acid 1.5 ALA 100 mg B5 3 mg. NERVE UP OD by NPIL. I am taking it. I undertsand from press report that such combinations have been banned as they are considered irrational. I ask two queries :
1. Is the dose adequate with the problem I have
2. is the combination irrational and if yes why. Can u guide becuase Nerve Up OD drug is beneficial for me and if stopped what will be the fate of the patients like me

Thanks in advance

Answer
Hi Ghanshyam,
I would like you to understand what homocysteine is:
Homocysteine is an amino acid in the blood. Epidemiological studies have shown that too much homocysteine in the blood (plasma) is related to a higher risk of coronary heart disease, stroke and peripheral vascular disease.

Now you are using a combination of B12 nd folic acid made by NPIL.  am not sure if this is included in the list of irrational combination presently being scrutinized by the DTAB. Even if it is banned you will be able to take a smilar combination by using individual compounds so it should nto be a worry for you.
