Subject: BP Medicines - Equivalent

Question
Our Pharmacist gave AMCARD-AT inplace of my requirement of AMLOPRESS-AT. Kindly let me know if the two medicines are equivalent in therapetic value.

Thanks in advance

Answer
Amcard-AT contains amlodipine 5mg and atenolol 50mg.  Almopress-AT contains amlodipine 5mg and atenolol 25mg.  While the 2 medications contain the same active ingredients, the contain different amounts of atenolol, the beta blocker which slows the heart rate as well as lowers blood pressure.  I would check in with your prescriber if the change in dosage was as intended.

Thanks

Barb Judge
