Topic: Pharmacy

Subject: SKIN BREAKOUT FROM QUESTRAN

Question
I HAVE BEEN USING QUESTRAN FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS FOR A DIARREHA
PROBLEM.  LAST AUGUST, I STARTED TO GET A SKIN BREAKOUT.  HAVE
SEEN 4 DERMATOLOGISTS WHO INSIST IT CAN'T BE FROM QUESTRAN
AND CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT THE BREAKOUT IS FROM.  I HAVE EVEN
CALLED THE MAKER OF QUESTRAN BUT THEY CAN'T DESCRIBE WHAT THE
SKIN RASH OR SKIN IRITATION LOOKS LIKE THAT IS DESCRIBED ON THEIR
INSERT.  PLEASE ADVISE.  THANK YOU.

Answer
Hi Milly,
I have not seen a rash that I could directly attribute to the use of Questrasn. If possible, I would suggest a period of time off the Questran to establish if it is in fact the cause of the rash. You could try Immodium in its place to control the diarrhea while off Questran. Also consider changing laundry soap. Some laundry soaps leave a residue on clothing and bed sheets which can cause an allergic dermatitis reaction.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.Sc. Pharm
