Subject: Toprol XL

Question
I was precsribed Toprol XL after having some stents placed to clear some blockages. I had not had a heart attack. Luckily we found the blockages early so I have no heart damage. I have recently been given the generic version of Toprol XL and my blood pressure has increased. My wife said she read somewhere that some patients have reported an increase in blood pressure after changing to the generic form. Is there any truth to this?

Answer
Hi Bon,
generics a supposed to be therapeutically equivalent to the brand name medication. Occasionally peopole do not respond the same to generics as they do to the brand nemae drugs because the fillers may be different. This is in minority of cases.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.Sc. Pharm
