Question A friend was drug tested and came up positive for amphetimines. She did not take any. We are trying to figure out what could make this happen. She recently had a yeast infection and took monistat, Life vitamin drink, centrum silver, ibeprofen, advil, motrin, tylenol for arthritis, fish oil and is being told none of these would bring those results. Any ideas?
Answer Some cold and flu medications which contain ephedrine or pseudoephedrine can cause false positive drug screenings for amphetamines. If your friend took any of the Advil, Motrin, or Tylenol Sinus products or Flu products by accident instead of plain Advil, Motrin or Tylenol there is a chance this could have been the cause of a false positive reaction. In some rare cases severe kidney infections, kidney disease, or liver disease can also cause a false positive reaction.
