Question QUESTION: what is the effect of taking rifampicin with the contraceptive pill?
i am aware it reduces the effectiveness of the pill in preventing ovulation but could you please go into further details about this and how and why this occurs.

Answer Hi Mahria,
Rifampin indices liver enzymes that metabolize certain drugs including oral contraceptives. This results in greater metabolism of those drugs and hence their decrease activity.
