Subject: wellbutrin question
Question i am presently going to a very good dr.,...he has me taking wellbutrin and lexapro for depression. i know that weight is so much a reason for my depression, and i told him i would like to try the adderal instead of the other meds. the reason is because i found out that adderall helps w/ weight problems...he said taking the adderall for weight would be leagally wrong, are their similiar properties to these two drugs. so that i make be helped w/ the depression and weight all at the same time? since ( i know ), weight is my bigger obsession and depression problem.
Answer Dear Laura
I agree with you doctor that Adderall would be very inappropriate as it is addictive and also can worsen depression in the long run. If you suspect that your weight is due or contributed to by the antidepressants perhaps a change in antidepressant is needed. There are a few which are not prone to cause weight gain. Discuss this with your prescriber, preferably a psychiatrist. Counseling will maybe be a help too with your weight. Remember that nothing is insurmountable here.
