Question QUESTION: Hello Dr Ravindra Bhaskar Ghooi,
I'm a male 35 years and i live in the Netherlands. I have acne since i was 16 and i'm now on accutane since November 2007. I still have 1 month to go and i have no acne at the moment at all so im very happy. I have 2 questions:
- What is the change that the acne will come back? I had mild acne.
- I experience several side effects, but also i have had sort of nose infections and throat infection the last 4 months...it's like im having a cold very often. Is this also a side effect? Ok thanks for your answer.
Kind regards
Peter
ANSWER: Hi Peter,
The chances that you will get acne again are poor, this is based on experience with acne. Many people get rid of their acne after treatment, hence the chances are low. What you are describing does not sound like a side effect of accutane, but probably something known as Seasonal allergic rhinitis I would suggest you think along the lines of SAR.Hope this helps

QUESTION: Hello Ravi Ghooi,
Thanks for your answer. You mean like hay fever? I dont think that's the case. I never had problems with my throat or nose, but i do since i started accutane. I heard that your immune system is effected by accutane, so i was thinking that's the problem? I dont sneeze and that's a sign of hay fever. Its probably better te wait after my accutane (1 month to go) to see what happens. Do you agree? Thanks again.
Kind regards,
Peter
Answer Hi Peter,
I did mean something like hay fever. It is spring time in Europe and the incidence of hayfever rises in spring, in Europe atleast. Rather than going in for a complicatied diagnostic procedure, you could try out a drug like Cetrizine. If it reduces your symptoms then I would say hay fever was the correct diagnosis. If not then we will have to think something else. So that is my suggestion.
