Subject: Azitromicina (Antibiotics)
Question Hello
I got an infection in throat 4 days ago and have for the las 2 days bin taking 2 out of 3 pills (500mg)of Azitromicina (Antibiotics)that i got from the pharmacy in spain.
I still dont fill well and still have a lot of pain in my throat and there is only one pill left for tomorrow.
In the pharmacy they asked me if I wanted a pack for 3 or 7 days?
My question is now if I am not getting better by tomorrow should I then go to the pharmacy again a buy a pack of 3 pills (500mg) more.
What is the normal amounts days Antibiotics should be taken?
Hope you can answer my question
Thanks, Toby
Answer Hi Toby,
If you are are still feeling sick, you most likely have a viral infection, which does not respond to antibiotics, or the infection you have is resistant to zithromax (azithromycin). One of the problems with OTC antibiotics is an increasing prevalence of resistant organisms.
So, I would not buy any more but wait a few days and see how you feel. If you are still sick, then you most likely need another antibiotic.
I hope you feel better soon! You can also try gargling with warm salt water to help soothe your throat.
Best,
Dr. Tara Kompare, Pharm.D.
