Subject: Diabetes and Claratin

Question
Taking Amaryl, 2MG Daily.
Lantus 75 Unis Daily at bedtime.
Aspart Varible amounts based on blood/sugar readings.

After taking Claratin my blood/sugar readings seem to spike.

Any relation?

I also take: Diovan, Toprol XL, Lipitor, Protonix, Pottasium, Lasix, Multi Vitamin and a low dose aspirin.

Thank You

Answer
Hi Val,
There is no information in the drug monograph to imdicate that Claritin affects blood sugar. However scanning the web I found some reports of the drug affecting the result of the blood test. I was not able to varify the sources of that information. I would check with the manufacturer of your glucometer to see if they know if there is a relation between Claritin and elevated blood sugar reading.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.Sc. Pharm
