Question
Hi Mary,

I have been in retail pharmacy since I graduated in 2004, but like yourself, I have burned out way too quickly. I have recently been contacted by a recruiter with a staff pharmacist position in a long-term care pharmacy. I am expecting a paycut obviously, but I was wondering how much of one should I expect. I know money isn't everything, as I know there are aspects of long-term care that make up for the lower salary. But, if I do pursue this further, such as an interview, I want to know what range of salaries I would be negotiating within. I have done numerous searches online, but nothing of value. Any kind of advice/info would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

Answer
Hi,Simon,
There are regional differences in salaries, obviously, but if you have been working at a chain pharmacy, I would guess that you would have to take a cut of about $3-5 dollars per hour.
Depending on the size of the long-term care pharmacy (I assume they are fairly large since they contracted with a recruiter?), their benefits and better hours may make up for it.  Hope this helps, and good luck! Feel free to email again if you think of any more questions. Mary
