Subject: A combination of Ibuprofen and zaltoprofen
Question Hello Dr. Ravi Ghooi
I work with a pharmaceutical API mfg company.I wanted to enquire whether a drug combination of Zaltoprofen and Ibuprofen is possible. Zaltoprofen being relatively a newer molecule how conducive is it as a combination?
Kindly revert at your earliest.

Answer Hi Aarti,
Zaltoprofen has a mechanism which includes inhibition of bradykinin mediated effects. It is believed to be a selective COX II antagonist, unlike ibuprofen which is a non selective one. So why would you like to mix these two compounds? The mixture will be non selective. Additionally will the DCGI or FDA allow it? am not sure whether you want a reply from the regulatory point of view or pharmacological point of view, but I guess either way it would not be a good idea to mix the two. So far my opinion is not in favour, but if you have a specific reason to mix them I am willing to discuss the advantages. Please write to rghooi@gmail.com so that we may discuss the issue.
