Pharmacy - found a pill in my daughters room

Expert: Barbara Judge - 1/15/2009

Question
it's an oval pill light yellow,44-503 on one side.
should i be worried about this pill
rumor has it her friend may do this.

Answer
The only listing I can find for tablets with markings "44-503" is an over-the-counter product which contains acetaminophen, dextromethorphan, phenylephrine, and guiafenesin.  It is possible to abuse dextromethorphan, but to do so with this product would mean you would also have to take a huge dose of phenylephrine which is very dangerous.  I would recommend that you talk to your daughter about what you found and your concerns openly and honestly.

Thanks
