Pharmacy - Accutane

Expert: Dr Alan Galbraith - 10/8/2009

Question
I took accutane for the past 3 months and still taking them. Once in a while especially at night, i will suffer from mild itchiness. My question is will accutane cause liver damage? How many percentage will i get liver damage if i take them for 6 months (full course)

Answer
Dear VT

Accutane can cause liver damage leading to a usually mild hepatitis which is very reversible. I would not be worrying about this as it is not common and if you are really concerned ask your doctoir to to a simple blood test to monitor how your liver is faring.
