Pharmacy/Not filling full prescription

Question
Can a person who is given a prescription for a 30 day supply ask the pharmacy to only fill 7 days at a time to cut out of pocket costs per week? Thank you.

Answer
Hi Jess,
You can mosr definately ask for a smaller quantity of prescription to be filled. This does not necessarily save you money as the dispensing fee is charged for each fill of the prescription. Where it is advisable to do this is when you are starting on a new prescription and want to assess how you would react to it. If yo tolerate ot well then you can fill the balance of the prescription. This way you have not had to put out a large sum of money and end up not being to use the prescription as there are no refunds once the medication leaves the store.
Thank you for using Allexperts
