Question Hello...my doctor prescribed Bactrim (pharmacy gave me Sulfatrim DS) for a minor UTI, 1 tablet 2x/day for 5 days. Being unfamiliar with this medication, I looked it up online and am not very comfortable with what I am seeing...namely SJS as a side effect. I did take one pill before hitting the web, and will call my doctor tomorrow, but wanted some expertise on the medication so that I don't worry all night. Thank you in advance for your help!
Answer Hi Paula,
No medication is free of side effects. I have dispensed hundreds if not thousands of Sulfatrim DS to my patients. The only reported adverse effects I have had were skin seactions in the sun and one case of a blood disorder. The medication is effective and one of the best tolerated ones I have seen used for UTI.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.Sc. Pharm
