found plasmodium vivex,he has been taken coartem for three days but he did not recovered,i suspect that this medicine is right for this parasite (plasmodium vivex)or not please reply me thanks
Answer Hi Usman,
Coartem is indicated for Plasmodium Falciparum (as per the information given by the manufacturer Novartis). I am quoting the prescribing information from the site:
Coartem (artemether and lumefantrine) Tablets are indicated for
treatment of acute, uncomplicated malaria infections due to Plasmodium
falciparum in patients of 5 kg bodyweight and above.
From what it appears in the information the drug has not been rightly prescibed. Please show your doctor the prescribing information given on the site: http://www.pharma.us.novartis.com/product/pi/pdf/coartem.pdf
Best wishes
