Pharmacy - false thc positive

Expert: Barbara Judge - 5/4/2009

Question
i have recently just been released from prison and 2 weeks ago my parole officer asked for a urine sample. he asked if i had smoked any marijuana because they are lenient when told the truth. due to the fact that i have not smoked i answered no. my test came back positive for thc and he sent it to a lab to make sure. the only drug i have have induced since coming home has been ibuprofen due to minor aches and pains before going to sleep. becoming curious i looked up online to see if it would cause a false positive and recieved many results. i stopped taking ibuprofen about 5 days ago due to this fact. i just wanted to know if taken on a daily basis will it come up as thc on a drug test? thank you for your time.

Answer
It is possible that taking ibuprofen will cause a false positive drug screen for marijuana.  The website I use for this information and have found to be the most accurate about all drug use and drug testing information is "www.erowid.org"  This website has an entire area dedicated to drug testing.  Whether you can convince your parole officer that this information should be used to help your case, is another problem altogether.

Good luck
