Question Hi, I've been taking sertralina for 2 years now at it's lowest dosis. Everything was perfect until my liver starting hurting and the gastro told me some of my enzime levels were slightly elevated (nothing mayor) I stopped taking it for a month and repeated the blood work. This time results were perfect! I'm considering Bupropion and not any other antidepressant because I've have trouble loosing weight. Can you please tell me if it's a good choice.
Answer Hi Connie,
In my opinion Bupropion is not a good drug for depression, it is mainly used for smoking cessation. This drug too is contraindicated for hepatic cirrhosis, though it may be used for mild hepatic dysfunction.
Weight gain is a problem with many antidepressants and there is hardly any drug that one can depend upon to lose weight.I would however suggest you switch to fluoxetine, which will help your depression without hepatic problems. We can think about weight later.
