Pharmacy/switching from Prozac to Lexapro

Question
My prozac has worked for many years but for several months I have noticed the effectiveness going downward.  My doctor switched me to Lexapro, but wants me to gradually get off Prozac before I start the Lexapro.  I'm afraid of what might happen w/ the lower doses in my system.  Can I just start taking Lexapro?

Answer
Hi Lisa,
Prozac has a long half life in the body so you need not worry that you will not have any in you. I suggest a washout period of no Prozac for 3-4 days then starting on Lexapro.
Thank you for using Allexperts
