Pharmacy - plavix vs aggrenox

Expert: Dr. Ravindra Bhaskar Ghooi - 6/22/2009

Question
I had a heartattack and a stent installed 2 months ago and am wondering which would be better in my case?

Answer
Hi Mike,
There is a furious debate going on about these two drugs, which one is better? After going through the debate, I personally feel that this controversy is uncalled for. Plavix is a platelet inhibitor while aggrenox is a vasodilator plus aspirin. In most trial reports that I have accessed through Medline plavix plus aspirn is better than aggrenox. However I realize that some doctors do prefer aggrenox, and my view is that always follow your primary physician. He/She knows more about you than me and in case of complications they are the ones who are going to handle them.
