Pharmacy - 225mg Wellbutrin

Expert: Dr. Ravindra Bhaskar Ghooi - 7/5/2009

Question
QUESTION: I've taken Wellbutrin for years, both at 150mg and 300mg. I believe the optimal dosage for me may be 225mg, yet it's not available as such. Does 225mg exist in India? What can be done?
Thanks, David

ANSWER: Hi David,
Neither 225 mg nor 75 mg is available in India. But you could do one thing take one tab or capule of 150 and one half of another tablet or capsule, that will give you the required dose. I know it is difficult to divide a capsule esp if it contains granules, but you can do it, though not very accurate, it can be done.

QUESTION: Thanks Ravi. Now rather than dividing capsules (I have experience in this, and GSK insists their time release mechanism works differently in a cut tablet!) what about taking two XL tablets, a 150mg plus a 100mg together? Does the 100 mg XL exists? would the combined effect be the same as a single 250mg tablet? Do I need to speak with GSK?

Answer
Hi David,
If you can speak to GSK that will be good, to the best of my knowledge a 100 mg does not exist. But no harm ever in talkng to the manufacturer. I do not know anyone in the medical department at GSK, though I have friends in the clinical research division. My friends are of no use when we need this type of inforation. Please talk to their marketing or medical services.
Ravi
