Question
I have an annoying cough in the upper chest area, no other symptom but the cough. I take Effexor XR 75 mg every morning. Can I safely take a Mucinex 1200 mg maximum strength tablet with my medication?

Answer
Hi Pam,
I see no risk of interaction, so you may take Mucinex, but my worry is that will it be very effective. This sort of cough generally means an upper respiratory infection and you may have to use and antibiotic. Azithromycin or cefixime would be best but I dont think you will get these without a prescription, so a visit to the doctor is essential.
Regards
Ravi Ghooi
