Question Can the use of Percocet produce a false-positive tox screen for cocaine? (patient was also a long-standing alcohol abuser)
Answer Hi Mary,
Percocet contains two active ingredients, acetaminophen and oxycodone. Oxycodone is an opioid as is cocaine. I would think that when testing for opioids they would both show up on a test. Seeing that they are chemically related it is possible that oxycodone would show as false positive for coacaine. However it is best to check with the lab to establish that for sure.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.Sc. Pharm
