Expert: Dr. Ravindra Bhaskar Ghooi - 7/4/2009

Question
I have been diagnosed with H.pylori. I've been on prevpac for 3 days now.I ate some hot dogs sauce yesterday and it felt as if it was stuck in my throat, but I am preety sure it was gas I could taste it and it was burning my throat and nose but it felt like the food was stuck, but the thing is it is still their today it wont go away so I can't eat anything. Do you thing I need to give the prevpac longer to start working. Thank you....

Answer
Hi Arlene,
The sensatio you have described is quite accurate, but it is neither gas nor food that is stuck, it is lining of our throat that has got inflammed and swollen, giving you this feeling. This condition is also known as heart burn. I would suggest you drink some antiacid suspension and follow it up with sucralfate crushed and suspended in water. Continue prevpac and it will go away in a few days. Be careful not to eat very spicy food for some time, it appears that you have low tolerance for the same. This is temporary and once you are well you can resum your normal food.
Ravi
