Question
My Dr. has me on 2000 mgs daily. Yesterday am took the dosage and began painting a deck. Sun was out, not overly hot, it was 9am. I hadn't had a large breakfast,,coffee & a roll. I also had taken other meds(Allopurinol,Prilosec,Diltiazem, Metoprolol Tartrate) After working for an hour or so I had total flushing, pins & needles thru my arms, chest, shortness of breath and just a totally wiped out feeling. Eventually the itching spread to my legs. I've never had areaction to Niaspan this serious. The deck was finished but so was I. Recommendations? Suggestions? I did mention the flushing to my Dr. just last week, he said since it was irregular not to worry.

Answer
Hi Ed,
Flushing episodes are the most common sode effects associated with Niaspan. These become less frequent with use as the body gets used to the medication. The combination of heat and the medication probably was the contributing factor to how you felt. how long have you been on the medication?
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.Sc. Pharm
