Pharmacy - Testosterone replacement

Expert: Dr. Ravindra Bhaskar Ghooi - 9/13/2009

Question
Hey there. I have been using Androgel testosterone replacement therapy and because of cost have recently changed over to testosterone Cypionate self injections. The vial I use is from Sandoz Pharmaceuticals and the strength is 200mg/ML. My doctor first had me inject .75 ML into my thigh muscle every two weeks. At the end of my first cycle my testosterone level was 107, very low. He told me to up it to 1.5 ML every two weeks. I injected that amount 5 days ago and I can tell you my T level is still very low. I have been doing this long enough and I know that I am not getting the amount of testosterone my body needs, low sex drive, fatigue, weight gain, etc. Can you tell me why my body is not accepting the testosterone I am injecting intramuscularly? I am planning on going back to my doctor for another blood test and would like to have some information I could discuss with him. Thanks..Paul

Answer
Hi,
Testosterone is a oily compound, which is not easily excreted in urine. There is no reason why your body should not accept the hormone given. I am sure your blood level will be higher this time. I do not think that with the schedule you have yo testosterone will remain low. Let us see the level first and then we will think if anythng needs to be done at all.
