Question
QUESTION: dear sir,
olanzapine mouth dissolving tablet is creats  any sexual dysfunction,

ANSWER: Dear Majid

I am unsure of the meaning of your question but presume you are asking whether olanzapine causes any sexual dysfunction. To this the answer would be no although in very rare instances it has been known to cause priapism (sustained and painful erection). Also you state in your subject "depression". Olanzapine is not a true antidepressant although it is used in bipolar disorders and does help in the depressive phase of such disorders.

QUESTION: dear sir,
u were on long vacation, in between any new medicine has launched for depression and anxiety which does not cause sexual dysfunction or rarely,
i have my marriage in january 2010 , i am facing anxiety my dialy life and i dont get sleep without sleeping pill, presently i am taking etizolam 0.25 mg once daily at the time of bed it is helping me in controlling my anxity, sir i have hope in you thaswhy i write you my feeling, i am fearing in taking any anti depression medicine due to having fear of sexual dysfunction.i asked you abt olanzapine tablet bcoz it is giving me good sleep, it causes sexual dysfunction.

ANSWER: Dear Majid

Better you take zopiclone or zolpidem (if available in Qatar, zolpidem is certainly available in India but do not know about zopiclone which would be my preference) for your insomnia as tolerance is not a problem. Neither should cause sexual problems. Etizolam often needs an increase in dose wth time and can be addictive.

There is nothing new since my long vacation (in Europe and Asia) but am surprised you say olanzapine is causing sexual dysfunction as it is not reported to do so. I have a feeling that your sexual dysfunction may not be due to drugs at all but your state of mind. Are there any sexual psychotherapists in Qatar? I doubt it but there will be in India. I really think this is the help you need rather than more drugs.

I cannot really suggest anything else at the moment.

I wish you well and try to be positive about your forthcoming marriage.

QUESTION: dear sir,

buspar 2.5 mg twice daily can be taken safely for howlong, can this medicine be taken for longer, is effexor creates sexual dysfunction or not ?"

Answer
Dear Majid

Buspar is mainly used for anxirety and does not usually cause sedation. It is usually onlly used for short term treatment ie no more than 3 months although your prescriber can prescribe for longer if he/she deems it necessary. It can cause a decrease in libido but this is uncommon. Impotence and delayed ejaculation are rare.
