Respected sir,

I am on Metformin 500 SR due to DM Recently my post lunch session value was around 220. My family dr asked me to take Glimepride 2 mg over and above Metformin 500 Sr twice.

My company dr asked me to take Galvus 50 mg (VILDAGLIPTIN)after lunch plus Metformin 500 SR twice. However new drufg is costly Is VILDAGLIPTIN -Galvus 50 better than Glimepride 2 mg ?

Hi Hemant,
I understand that you are diabetic and have been on Metformin 500 SR twice a day, since your blood sugar is not under control another drug is indicated.
Now the general method of adding drugs is as follows:
First Drug: Metformin or Glimepiride
First addon: Glimepiride of Metformin
Second add on: Thiazolidonedione (Pioglitazone)
Third add on: Gliptin (Sitagliptin or Vildagliptin)

I would say your family doctor has given you better advice than the company doctor. I would follow his advice.
Best wishes
