Question Hello, I'm not sure if I'm asking this question in the right place, but I would really appreciate your help.
Last month I took amoxicillin and clavulanic acid, while I was taking the birth control pill as well. I know of the interactions (I study biochemistry! :P) so I had protected sex, using a condom. A week or so later, my period came and afterwards I started having sex without condom again. Am I safe? I've been worrying since.
Thank you in advance,
Sara
Answer You should be safe from pregnancy as long as you continued your pills as normal even though you were taking the antibiotics. It appears that you did. Now that you are on a new cycle of pills with no antibiotic to interfere with their metabolism you should be once again protected from pregnancy as long as they are taken once daily about the same time each day as instructed.
