Question My doc has prescribed Bactrim for a suspected prostate infection. There has been no improvement after two weeks. He wants me to stay on it for another two weeks. Then, if there is no improvement, he plans to switch me to Cipro. Does this sound like a prudent approach? Thank you for your valuable help.
Answer Hi,Jack!
Bactrim DS twice a day for 2-4 weeks sounds reasonable to me to treat a prostate infection. You need to increase your fluid intake (6-8 8oz glasses/day)and since this medication can sensitize your skin to UV radiation, be sure to use a sunscreen when outside. It can cause sunburn and rash. Hope this helps, Mary
