Question
Hi Barb. My dentist has just prescribed me Amoxicillin and i didn't tell her that i am already taking Microgynon, the contreceptive pill. Is there any risk to me and are both pills still going to work? I am currently on my 7 day break of Micrognon anyway.

Answer
It would be advisable to use an additional form of birth control for the remainder of this cycle of Microgynon to assure you are protected from pregnancy.  Antibiotics can interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills and either cause break through bleeding or render them ineffective.  The best solution is to make sure you are protected by using another form of birth control for the rest of this cycle.

Thanks

Barb Judge
