Question
Can you tell me what antidepressant on the market today, most closely matches the discontinued antidepressant Serzone.  Serzone is the only antidepressant that I can say really helped me.  I have tried Prozac, Zoloft, and am now on 150 mg of Effexor XR.  I hate the way I feel which has not gotten better since I was taken off of Serzone.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Julie,
Serzone is pretty much in a class by itself. It is unfortunate that it was removed from the market. I know other people who miss it.
You have not run out of options yet. The two antidepressant that you may suggest to your doctor to try are trazodone and Wellbutrin, and mirtazapine. They are not the same as the ones you have tried. They have different mecanism of action and may be suitable for you.
Thank you for using Allexperts
sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.Sc. Pharm
