Question Can I take Nordette 28 and Effexor XR 75mg., together? Any ill side effects, that I should know about. Doctor didn't think so, but He was retiring, THAT DAY, and not sure, he totally had his attention, on my concerns?! Thanks, Beth
Answer This combination is safe to take together. There should be no noticeable side effects or other problems associated with it.
There have been a few reports of hepatic metabolism interference which might result in an increased clearance of estrogen. It is felt that in such cases an increase in estrogen dosage is warranted. However there is considerable debate whether or not this should be done in the absence of adequate testing. Most clinicians maintain that no dosage adjustments are necessary unless there is proof of diminished activity.
It should also be noted that venlafaxine was not implicated directly in this interaction but rather it was suggested that it might be possible. In my opinion there is no reason at all to assume that this is significant and experience to date has proven that correct.
