Pharmacy - Effexor and Alli

Expert: Barbara Judge - 7/10/2007

Question
I have been taking Effexor(75 mg) for nearly a year.  I have recently started a diet and have begun taking the new diet pill Alli.  Is there any interaction between the two? Is it safe to take this while on an SSRI?  Thank you for any advice you may lend.

Answer
There have been no documented cases of drug interactions between Effexor and Alli.  It should be safe to take the 2 medications together.  It would also be safe to take Alli while taking and SSRI, although Effexor is not actually and SSRI.

Thanks

Barb Judge
