Pharmacy - Jaw pain

Expert: Layla Yeganeh - 7/7/2007

Question
Hi, I have been getting jaw pain and headaches since starting prozac 20mg.
Is there anything I can do about this? I have been taking advil, and it seems to help a little bit, but not much.
The prozac is helps me a lot, but I might switch because its causing the pain.
Have you heard of this before?

Answer
Hi Erica.

I am sorry you are experiencing this unpleasant side effect.
I went through a bought of bruxism while I was on several antidepressants, and I know it can be painful.

I would suggest talking to you doctor to see if lowering the dose would help, also see about adding Buspar in a low dose, as it seems to have some effect on alleviating SSRI induced bruxism and TMD pain.

Take care.
